Bone mineral density analyzing system--Two dimensional x-ray image processing for measuring bone mineral density
Bone mineral density analyzing system--Two dimensional x-ray image processing for measuring bone mineral density
Description
This is the new technology for the diagnosis of osteoporosis bone-densitometry technology using x-ray image. This diagnosis technology consists of merely a computer system and scanner for x-ray film imaging; therefore, the cost of osteoporosis diagnosis is very low and the possibility to make an early diagnosis is very high. It contributes to active computer-based medical diagnosis systems by linking directly to PACS, picture archiving and communication system, and using X-ray images. The bone trabecular index, which quantifies morphological changes of trabecular pattern caused by bone mineral loss, has been developed and proven to provide effective estimations of distal radius bone mineral density. Thus quantitative diagnosis of osteoporosis from conventional x-ray images becomes possible without any calibration method.
Specialty
Estimation bone mineral density via quantitative analysis of trabecular patterns changes appearing on x-ray images
Provides a correlation of 0.92 with the dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) for distal radius
Real-time operation (within 5 seconds)
Effect of the Technique
An effective screening for osteoporosis via routine use of the technique for the estimation of bone mineral density
Provides a convenient and economical screening tool for the prevention of osteoporosis
Contributes to the activation of the new research field of computer-aided diagnosis
